Health in Your Hands

Did you know that you can tell many health conditions just by looking at different parts of your hands? In this issue, I would like to go over some of the indicators.

Fingernails reveal much in terms of health. First look at the color. Do they appear a healthy pink or are they red, white, or even bluish at the base? If you have red nails, your blood pressure is likely too high. White nails indicate circulation problem. Blue nails may also relate to circulation, as well as cardiovascular weakness.

Weak or brittle nails display calcium deficiency. White spots indicate worry. These can show up on any or all the fingers. If it is on just one finger, then we look to the meaning of the finger to determine what the worry is over. For example, a white spot on the thumb would be a worry over results. This would be a common mark on a student’s hand about to take a big test. Maybe you have to give a big presentation at work. You might end up with a worry spot on Apollo (the ring finger.) You can even time out the worries due to the length of time it takes to grow a nail. Most people’s nails take 6 months to grow out (this varies slightly with age and finger.)

Moons indicate thyroid condition. Moons are located at the base of the nail and look like a half-circle emerging into the nail. Most people have the biggest moon on the thumb. It is normal not to see one on the little finger. If your moons are missing, your thyroid is underactive. And if they are overly large, it is overactive. From my own observations, women have more trouble with no moons, and men have more trouble with overlarge moons.

Ridging is another common condition present in the fingernails. Vertical ridging is the most common and is often seen on Fire hands (please refer to my last newsletter on hand shapes for more information on this.) It indicates an overactive nervous system. People with vertical ridges may have difficulty relaxing. Horizontal ridges are called Beau’s Lines. You may get these if you have an accident with your nail (like slamming it in a car door, for example.) If not relating to an accident, they show a zinc deficiency.

Sometimes the nails will not be straight, but will curl up at the end. This is called “spooning” because the nail resembles a spoon. This indicates a protein deficiency. This deficiency may also present itself with pitting. Pitting reminds me of a hailstorm bombarding the nail, because the nail looks like it was attacked and is left with a bunch of indentations. I have seen both of these conditions on some vegetarians.

Overall health and vitality can also be determined from the thumb ball, also known as the Venus mount. The best possibility here would be if it were moderately puffy and elastic. In other words, if you squeeze it, you can feel some springiness. If this mount is too large, it shows overindulgence. If the mount is flat and squishy or collapsible, the person will tire easily, or feel the effects of stress more quickly.

These are just a few health indicators. Of course, there are also many psychological conditions as well. If you are interested in learning more, come to a class or call me for private tutoring.
