Hand Shape and Personality

Have you ever noticed that some people have long fingers while others have short fingers? Some palms are square and other are more rectangular. Hand shape is actually a good way to determine a person’s basic personality and is connected with the four elements: Earth, Fire, Water and Air.

How do you determine if the fingers are long or short? The key is to measure the middle finger, known as the Saturn finger, with the length of the palm. Is the finger 3/4 the length of the palm or less? (Measured to the rascettes, the lines that run the length of the wrist). If yes, then the fingers are short. If no, then the fingers are long. Next, we look at the palm surface. Measure the length from the base of the Saturn finger to the rascettes. Compare this length with the width, measuring from just above the thumb to the percussion. Is the measurement almost the same? This is a square palm. Is the length noticeably longer? Then this is a rectangular palm. Now we are ready to discover the hand shape and what it means in your developing personality.

If you have short fingers and a rectangular palm, this represents the Fire element.  Fire types are on the go. Fire people are enthusiastic and goal-oriented. They may have trouble relaxing and tend to take on more than they should. They are able to accomplish a lot in a short amount of time. Burnout is a possibility if they are not careful. Work is important. They love changes and developments, never stagnating. They have the ability to take risks and would do well in emergencies, since they can assess situations quickly. Fire types hate restrictions, limitations, and ruts.

If you have long fingers and a square palm, this represents the Air element. Air types are thinkers, yet also physical and instinctive.  They have the ability to specialize in the field of their choice. People with Air hands tend to be on the quirky side and love to analyze and contemplate possibilities. Expressing emotions may be difficult, though they feel a lot. They are naturally curious and would be good at debate since their knowledge is extensive in topics of interest. Air people work well under deadlines and have the ability to influence those around them. They need to beware of attracting too much stress.

If you have long fingers and a rectangular palm this represents the Water element. Just like water, they are highly adaptable and have very unique perspectives. Water types do not like to be rushed into decisions, but usually come to the right conclusions. Their ideas are highly sophisticated since they love to focus on the details. Direction can be an issue, however.  They are naturally caring and sensitive toward others and are  often drawn to healing, counseling, religious or devotional paths. They are highly receptive to outside influences and may be prone to moodiness. Inner processes, feelings, and sensations are their main focus. They tend to avoid conflicts and competition. 

If you look at a young child’s hand, under the age of four, you might notice that the fingers are short and pointy and the palm is square. Short fingers and a square palm represent the Earth element and we all start out with this hand shape. Earth people are solid and stable. They love the outdoors and work very well with their hands. They are family oriented with a strong physical drive. They would make natural craftspeople. Earth types are among the most loyal and trustworthy people around, but can be very stubborn. Not usually a leader or follower, they prefer to do their own thing. Most Earth people are fond of plants and animals. They dislike being formal and security is important.
